Federal programs supporting pre-commercial clean technology in agriculture and community food security infrastructure.
The ACT Research and Innovation Stream is closed to direct applications. AAFC now delivers pre-commercial agricultural clean-tech funding through the ACT Accelerator, $30M over two years (to March 31, 2028), via six delivery organizations (Bioenterprise, CAAIN, Canadian Food Innovation Network, MaRS, Ontario Genomics, Zone Agtech), each running its own intakes. The Local Food Infrastructure Fund's most recent intakes are closed (Small Scale on September 24, 2025; Large Scale on February 28, 2025). The program runs to March 31, 2027.
In practice. We structured a CEA clean energy innovation pilot application under the ACT Innovation Stream and secured local food infrastructure funding paid directly to a community client.
Innovation versus food-infrastructure: we place the project in the stream that fits.
The emissions and economics case that AAFC reviewers expect.
Applications built so funded assets keep delivering after the program ends.
Yes, when the energy system and the production technology together cut emissions against conventional supply chains. The business case has to show it, and that is our specialty.
They focus on infrastructure and capacity. We design applications so funded assets keep delivering after the program ends.
The ACT Adoption Stream, which funded energy-efficient greenhouses and controlled environment agriculture, closed with all projects completing by March 31, 2026, and no renewal has been announced. We track successor programming, including the ACT Accelerator's delivery-partner intakes, and design projects to be ready for the next window.
